Weekly Roundup #4 (26th June 2016)

All the news (some of the news) from this week

I think we’ll start with DC this week, and there have been some developments from the Justice League set. Now, because of the less than favourable responses to Batman v Superman, Zack Snyder decided to invite a number of the ‘haters’ to his Justice League set to show them that actually, he knows what he’s doing. It’s a brave move, I’ll give Warner Bros that, but it reeks of desperation.

First of, there won’t be a Part 1 and a Part 2 as such. The film currently in production is a self contained thing. That’s not to say there won’t be a sequel someway down the schedule, though. We know the first part of the film will be Bruce Wayne/ Batman tracking down the other members of the would be Justice League (Flash, Cyborg, Aquaman) with the help of Wonder Woman. Steppenwolf will be the baddie, as teased in the deleted scene WB released just after BvS came out in cinemas. Steppenwolf is the leader of the Apokolips  army (Darkseid’s planet, who was teased in BvS). And Henry Cavill’s Superman will return at some point. We’ve also been told the tone is lighter, as a response to the critical response to BvS. The Flash will provide most of the humour apparently, as Spider-Man did in Civil War. Sounds good to us.

Some Star Wars news and Entertainment Weekly have released a number of images from the upcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. We’ve also learnt that James Earl Jones will be returning as Darth Vader. We’ve also had confirmation that Mads Mikkelsen is playing a Robert Oppenheimer-esque role who is the father of Felicity Jones’ Jyn Erso.

Spider-Man: Homecoming has added yet more cast members with Abraham Attah and Hannibal Buress on board. Attah is famous for starring recently in Beasts of No Nation with Idris Elba and Buress is best know for his comedic work.

Over to one of my favourites and Spielberg has been chatting about the upcoming Ready Player One adaptation. For those of you who have read Ernest Cline’s novel of the same name, you’ll be aware of the 80’s nostalgia running throughout the film. Spielberg has said that he’s going to leave out a lot of the references to his own work, aside from the DeLorean, of course (BOO).

And finally, the trailer for the next Jack Reacher film, starring Tom Cruise has landed.
