Weekly Roundup #2 (12th June 2016)

Your roundup of all (most…some) of this week’s TV/ film news is right here.

Firstly, we’ve got some casting news from the upcoming Spider-man: Homecoming with Michael Barbieri (I don’t know who he is either) and Kenneth Choi joining up. Choi has already had a minor role in the MCU as one of the Howling Commandos in Captain America: The First Avenger. No news yet as to who they might be playing.  Of course we know that RDJ is set to make an appearance as Iron Man and/or Tony Stark and Micheal Keaton was/is/might be in talks to play the villain, rumoured to be the Vulture.

Josh Brolin has been speaking about Infinity War, in which he will, of course, be playing the big bad, Thanos. And he had a glowing review of the story:

“I sat at a table and I listened to the story from beginning to end”

“These Avengers stories all come down to this conclusion, and that’s our involvement. Basically, my character against everybody. And it’s really fun what they’ve chosen to do with the story”

“I think it’s brilliant, personally”

“I was blown away, and had goose pimples pretty much 50% of the time that I was listening to what was going on, and pretty amazed that I’m going to be involved in it. So it’s a big thing that’s coming up”.

Exciting stuff.

Staying with Marvel comics, but heading over the the vastly inferior film studio, Fox, and Toby Kebbel, who played Doctor Doom, has told audiences that Josh Trank’s original cut of Fant4stic was great and we’ll never get to see it. Guess we’ll have to take his word on that then.

Over to DC and J.K. Simmons is busy preparing for his role as Commissioner Gym Gordon in the upcoming Justice League. Here’s the proof.

Every time we train together I forget he's 61 years old. So much respect for this guy. #JKSimmons #OldManCranking

Not sure quite why he has to be so ripped but why not, I guess. Maybe Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill have got to a size too large that for any normal sized human to share the screen with them would just look ridiculous. Who knows.

The next film on DC’s slate, Suicide Squad, has been given a rating of PG-13 in the States for “sequences of violence and action throughout, disturbing behavior, suggestive content and language”. Not surprising really.

Over to video games but staying with DC and the much anticipated Injustice 2 has had it’s release trailer dropped onto the web. And it looks pretty cool, check it out below.

Now to a project that I’m quite emotionally invested in, as it’s based on one of my favourite books, and Mr Steven Spielberg has found his Daito for his adaptation of Ernest Cline’s Ready Player One. He’ll be played by Japanese pop star Win Morisaki. Interesting move.

Some Star Wars pseudo-news now and Rian Johnson posted a picture of, what we presume is Luke Skywalker’s raggedy old cloak, with the caption, ‘in the home stretch’.

lukecloak.jpgFrom Luke Skywalker to Finn, and John Boyega has signed up to join the sequel of Pacific Rim. Pacific Rim 2. Apparently he’s playing the son of Idris Elba’s character.

And in the latest gender-swap reboot film, Elizabeth Banks and Mindy Kaling are rumoured to be joining Cate Blanchett, Sandra Bullock and Helena Bonham Carter in the cast of the Ocean’s 11 reboot. Who knows why they can’t just write a new film with good female characters in it. I guess it’s easier just to do a gender swap and call it feminism. I can’t wait for the day where each film is shot twice, once with an entirely male cast and then with an entirely female cast. Just for equality. Don’t get me wrong I’m all for women getting more prominent roles in the film industry, I just don’t think gender swapping is the answer. Decent cast, though.

That’s your news for the week. Let us know what you think of it all. Why is J.K. Simmons getting so ripped? How do you feel about gender-swap reboots?
