Back in April there were mutterings that Michael Keaton would be joining the MCU as the villain in the new rebooted Spiderman film. This was exciting news. But pen wasn’t put to paper, nothing was signed and the rumours, like so many in tinsel town, faded away.
Yet reports coming through are saying he’s close to signing on for the second time. As these are only reports, Sony and Marvel both have closed lips about it and even more so on who he might be playing but all of the talk is pointing to him playing ‘The Vulture’.
We can definitely see it; Keaton is no stranger to the superhero game having played The Dark Knight in the past and then there’s his more complex turn in the 2014 Birdman. After recent announcements of the impressive cast joining other MCU films (Black Panther and Thor: Ragnarok) and the already existing talent, Keaton will be joining some really great company. After his great form over the last few years with the aforementioned Birdman and last years Spotlight, we’re sure the Oscar nominee will hold his own.
Now as for who he’s playing. ‘The Vulture’ was the second ever villain Spiderman faced so he’s been around for a while and had a lot of different characters have taken on the mantel, the most popular being Adrian Toomes. After having his company ruined by his business partner Toomes turned to a life of crime as ‘The Vulture’. His powers? Well he’s an electronics engine and he manages to make an electromagnetic harness that allows him to fly while also giving him strength that might not be super but definitely on the upper end of the human scale. In the comics he wears a pretty funky green suit with a feather ruff so I reckon they’ll be moving away from the source material for this one!
So there you have it! Keaton could be joining the MCU. Maybe as ‘The Vulture’ maybe as someone else, maybe not at all who knows! We’re just reporting the whispers!
Spiderman: Homecoming is set for a Summer 2017 release.
